James Paul Perkins, 81, died Saturday, October 28, 2023, at the Traceway Greenhouses in Tupelo. He was born November 12, 1941, in Marks, Mississippi to Birtee Perkins, and Mary Louise Leaton Perkins. On December 17, 1971, he married Shirley Tidwell Perkins. Paul was a devoted husband and dedicated father over any hobbies or ventures. He was extremely genuine and humble. Paul’s career was centered on warehouse management; he retired from Lowe’s after 30 years of continued service. In Paul’s free time he enjoyed watching NASCAR and any Ole Miss sporting events, he especially enjoyed football. He was a founding member of Faith Baptist Church in Saltillo.
Paul is survived by his wife, Shirley of Saltillo; four children, Mischel Jackson (Jim) Coldwater, James “Jim” Paul Perkins, Jr. (Jennifer) of Jacksonville, Florida, Brian Burrow (Kelly) of Saltillo, and Ashly Perkins (Robin) of New Albany; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Frank Perkins (Frances) of Sardis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five siblings, Johnny Perkins, David Perkins, Darrell Perkins, Larry Perkins, and Mary Lee Wilson.
Visitation will be 5 until 7 p.m. Monday, October 30, 2023, at Pegues, Saltillo.
Services honoring his life will be 12 p.m. Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at the Saltillo Chapel of Pegues with Dr. Phil Ellis officiating. Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Oxford Memorial.
Pallbearers will be Jay Perkins, Gabriel Perkins, Eric Jackson, Cash Jackson, Avery Burrow, and Gresham Melton.
