A funeral mass for James Patrick Mason, 95, of Florence, South Carolina will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday February 1st at Saint Benedicts Catholic Church in Lacey’s Spring. Burial will follow the service at Holly Pond Cemetery in Holly Pond, Alabama. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:00 A.M. until 9:30 A.M. at Saint Benedicts Catholic Church. The Rosary will be from 9:30 A.M. to 10:00 A.M.
Mr. Mason was born July 27, 1928 in Paducah, Kentucky. He passed away January 26, 2024 in Florence, South Carolina. Patrick joined the Merchant Marines at the age of 15. Shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1946; while enlisted, Patrick took on many roles including being a bandsman, assisting as a cook and served in the Air Battalion #11. Outside of his military service, Patrick was a scenic designer at Jim Handy Studios in Detroit, Michigan, a museum exhibit designer at Goerge P. Johnson Assoc. in Chicago, Illinois and Design Craftsmen in Midland, Michigan. He enjoyed traveling as often as he could and held many talents in a variety of areas including artistry, painting, music, photography and being an author.
Mr. Mason is survived by his children, Mark Mason (Lisa), Patrick Mason (Cindy), Sean Mason (Gina), Paul Mason, Greg Mason, Jamie Hughes, Chris Mason; grandchildren, Tony Mason, Michael Mason, Colette Mason, Felicity Mason, Hunter Mason, Marissa Mason, James Mason; great-granddaughter, Amelia Mason; and his sister, Sujanet Mason.
Mr. Mason was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Earl and Martha Beatrice McCampbell-Mason; and his wife, Judy Milam Mason.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital; or the Birds of Prey Center in Awendaw, South Carolina.
