James Monroe “Jim” Glass – Obituary

jamesJames Monroe “Jim” Glass, 85, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at the North MS Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born December 9, 1930, in Greensboro, NC to John Monroe and Daisy Hooks Glass. In 1950, Jim graduated from Greensboro Senior High School and then attended Appalachian State Teachers College at Boone, NC. He then entered the U.S. Navy where he served as Boatswain’s Mate during the Korean War. Highly decorated, he received the UN, Korea, China Service, and Japan Occupation medals with 4 battle stars. In 1956, he met and married his wife of 60 years, Patricia Lockamy Glass. Jim worked for Blue Bell Inc. as a manager in Brooklyn, NY and was transferred to Tupelo in July 1977 where he was the manager of a trucking operation facility until he retired in 1988. Jim was greatly loved by his family who will miss his quick sense of humor and playing late night family board games at family get-togethers.

A memorial service will be held 2 PM Saturday at the Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the service. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.

Jim leaves behind his wife Patricia of Saltillo; his daughter, Teresa Brown (Larry) of Batesville, AR; his son, Jon Michael Glass of Memphis; a sister, Lena Mae (Cherry) Glass Parnell of Winston-Salem, NC; 2 grandchildren, Michael Alexander Glass and Emily Marie Holder; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Irene Glass Prewett, Frances Glass Reynolds, Ruby Truitt, and Nancy Millican.
