A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

James was born on July 17, 1945, in Giles County, Tennessee, to the late Monroe Adams and the late Ella Sweeny Adams. A devout follower of his Lord, James was known for his deep faith and dedication to preaching the word of God, often sharing scriptures even during his favorite pastime, fishing. He could quote the Bible without opening it, and with a cup of coffee, a fishing pole, and his Bible by his side, he was ready for the day. He never met a fishing lure he didn’t like, and his love for fishing was well-known among his family and friends.

James had an unconditional love for his family and the church he helped build, Broken People Ministries Church. His fun-loving and lighthearted nature made him a joy to be around, often playing pranks on his loved ones, including the four-legged members of the family. He was truly a kid at heart. James also proudly served his country in the United States Army.

He is survived by his nephew, Ricky (Jennifer) Hobby; niece, Ella (Mike) Collier; sons, Cheyenne (Tricia) Craig, Dustin Craig, and Ritchie (Sue) Seagraves; brother-in-law, Jerry Hobby; sister-in-law, Shirley Adams; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many other nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack Adams and James E. Adams; and his sisters, Mattie Hobby, Elizabeth Adams, and Fronie South.

The family extends a special thank you to the Caris Healthcare associates, Ashlie, Shaely, and Allison for their compassionate care and dedication in helping fulfill James’s final wish of being at home.
