James Lewis Sharp of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024. He was 86 years old.

Mr. Sharp was born on September 5, 1937 in New Market, Alabama to Percy and Gladys McCord Sharp. Mr. Sharp married Peggy Jean Watson on May 12, 1961.

He was a veteran of the United States Army with service in Germany, Fort Hood (Texas), and Fort Rucker (Alabama). After an honorable military discharge, he worked for Teledyne Wah Chang for thirty-nine years.

Mr. Sharp is preceded in death by his parents Percy and Gladys Sharp and his siblings Billy Joe Sharp, Mae Sharp Fanning, and Linda Sharp Hale.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Peggy Watson Sharp; his brothers Kenny Robert Sharp of Fayetteville, TN, and Benny Carl Sharp (Margaret) of Spring, TX; his sisters Ann Sharp Rogers of Huntsville, AL, and Faye Sharp Wilburn of Huntsville, AL; his son James Derek Sharp (Lavina) of Huntsville, AL; daughters Lena Diane Sharp Griffin (Matt) of Meridian, MS, and Lana Denise “DeeDee” Sharp Briggs (Maury) of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren James Cornelius “Cory” Griffin of Meridian, MS, Christopher Andrew “Drew” Haley of Huntsville, AL, Mary Paige Griffin of Birmingham, AL, Lauren Abigail “Abby” Haley of Huntsville, AL, Margaret Grace Griffin of Dallas, Texas, Madeline Hope Griffin of Jackson, MS, and Ella Tyler Briggs of Huntsville, AL; great-granddaughter Elizabeth Lee “Lizzie” Haley of Huntsville, AL; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A receiving of friends will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at Berryhill Funeral Home.

The family would like to express thanks to the Gentiva Hospice nurses for the compassionate care they provided to Mr. Sharp.
