James Leonard Morris – Obituary

James-Morris-1432130687James Leonard Morris, age 81, died Wednesday morning, May 20, 2015 at Saint Francis Hospital Bartlett.

Mr. Morris was born in Chester County and grew up at Silerton, the son of the late James Perry and Cynthia Lorene Whitten Morris. He attended school at Silerton and entered the U. S. Army near the end of the Korean War. He married Erma Lee Maness in 1954. They lived in Memphis a short while before making their home in the Hickory Corner Community of Chester County. He worked as a carpenter and auctioneer for over fifty years. He was an active member of the Hickory Corner Community Center and served as vice-president for over eight years. He was a member of Silerton Baptist Church.

His hobbies were fishing, NASCAR, quail hunting, visiting yard sales, and tinkering in his shop. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of over sixty years Erma Lee Maness Morris; two brothers, Arthur L. Morris of Southerland, OR and Robert Morris of Tampa, FL; three sisters, Virginia Hatch of Morton, IL, Dale Russom of Jackson, and Melba Hughes of Lavinia, TN; numerous nieces and nephews and two dogs, Rusty and Buster.

He was preceded in death by two brothers; Donald Morris and Jerry Morris, and three infant sisters.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Dr. Charlie Crouthers officiating. Burial will follow at Little Hatchie Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Shackelford – Casey Chapel from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday.
