James Leon Allen, 92 of Dora, affectionately known as, “Doots” or “Cuz”, and by the men at the mines as “Rattler”, passed away Monday Aug. 5, 24 at his residence.
He was a member of Dora Church of God.
He was a member of the Dora Fire Department – Fire Chief (1972-1984) and the Dora Police Department – Auxiliary Policeman
He worked for Wilburn Woodwork, Hawkins Iron, Bristol Steel and retired from Jim Walter Resources #3 Mines after 17 years. He was a member of the UMWA.
He enjoyed tinkering with cars, lawn mowers or anything that needed repaired. People relied on him to fix anything that was broken. Most of all he enjoyed laughing, talking and eating and calling everyone he would meet “cuz.”
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Jimmie Nell Allen; parents, Samuel Allen and Lou Ella Colbert Allen and siblings, James Leroy Allen, Verdi Allen, Vordry Allen, Robby Allen, Beatrice Allen, Dewey Allen, Annie Colbert, Ray Allen and Virginia.
Survivors include his son, Mike Allen (Kathy); Granddaughter, Sherrie Myrick (Anthony); Great-Grandsons, Caleb Myrick; and Joshua Myrick (Hollee Turner); sister, Carolyn Hall; several Nieces and Nephews and Friends.

Funeral services will be Friday Aug. 9, 24 at 2:00 pm at Dora Church of God. Pastor Ricky Levell will officiate. Burial will follow at East Dora Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 1-2 pm at the church.
