James Lecel Oglesby, 78, Southside, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 25, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and for 57 years, a faithfully devoted husband to his wife, Rebecca. He retired from Goodyear Tire Company in 2000 after many decades of service. He was a long-time member of Southside Baptist Church. Mr. Oglesby is preceded in death by his father, Private First-Class James Edward Oglesby and his mother Mrs. Vona Mae Oglesby Sheppard. Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Oglesby, daughters Angie (Jay) Morgan, Cyndi (Chris) Duke, Susan (Todd) Hughey, and chosen son, and Eli (Lana) Smith. His grandchildren: Katie (Brett) Collins, Sarah (Brady) Pasley, Savannah (Barry) Womble, James Jenkins, and Isabella Jenkins. His great-grandchildren: Jackson, Davis, and Bennett Collins, Eliza Leigh Womble, Addie Kate Pasley, and Dalton Smith, and his brother Hugh Sheppard, his uncle Pete Oglesby, and a host of nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Kindred Hospice, Dr. Jason Ayers, and Dr. Layla Wren. The family will receive friends Sunday, June 27th, from 2:00pm until 3:30pm at Collier Butler Funeral Home, with the service to follow. Reverend Bob Thornton will officiate with Bill Drummons to assist. Special music will be provided by Jessica Ponder, Michael McGlaughn, and Sharron Yancey. There will be a private graveside service. Pallbearers will be James Jenkins, Jackson Collins, Brett Collins, Brady Pasley, Barry Womble, and Eli Smith. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you please make donations to the charity of your choice.
