James (Jim) Timothy Richards, 64, of Daphne, AL, passed away on June 4th.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bob Richards and Doris Richards Murphy.
He is survived by his daughter, Madison Richards of Birmingham, AL, his brother Steve (Carol) Richards of Chapel Hill, NC, sister Libby Mitchell of Guntersville, AL, nieces and nephew Chris Richards, Carrie Williamson and Ashley Mitchell and friend and companion, Laura Parker.
Jim grew up in Haleyville, AL, and remains close to many of the friends he made there. He matriculated at both University of Alabama and University of North Alabama, graduating from UNA in 1981 with a degree in commercial photography. He enjoyed a career in sales and marketing, most recently working as VIP Sales Consultant for Eastern Shore Hyundai. He was a faithful member of Freedom Church in Daphne, AL, where he played guitar in the Praise Team and led a small group. He enjoyed playing the guitar and music of all kinds, was a recent gardening enthusiast, loved to cook and share his gift of hospitality, and was an avid cyclist. His love for his daughter, Maddie, was surpassed only by his love for Jesus! He celebrated his 64th birthday early on the morning of June 4th with a 64-mile bike ride. He made it only a little over halfway, meeting his Maker with the sunrise at his back and a strong tailwind behind him. Family and friends will grieve the loss of his presence and a life well-lived in our midst, but we find comfort in knowing he ultimately celebrated his birthday with the One he had been preparing all his life to meet.
A celebration of life is planned for Sunday, June 11th, 2:00 pm at Freedom Church in Fairhope, AL, with Rev. Mark Price officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to: Freedom Church International, 101 Ecor Rouge Place, Fairhope, AL, 36532, For Church Planting in Nigeria.
