Dr. James “Jim” T. Townsley, 88, of Huntsville, passed away Friday, May 3, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Dr. Townsley was a pediatrician for 35 years.

Jim was an Eagle Scout. He was awarded the Keller Key from Florence State Teacher’s College and attended medical school at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He served in the US Army from 1958-1964. Dr. Townsley was a founding physician of Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Huntsville and was a member of Mayfair Church of Christ since 1965.

Jim loved water skiing, triathlons, horse riding, golf, and camping.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Sandra Sue Hewson Townsley; children, Cydney Elizabeth Townsley (Henry) Thomson, James Steven (Lynn) Townsley and Nancy Kaye Townsley (Billy) Harris; grandchildren, Elizabeth Danielle Townsley (Kevin) Bouler and James Thomas Townsley; and great-grandchildren, Lyla Elizabeth Bouler and Korbin Andrew Bouler.

Private services were held, and the burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery.
