James (Jim) Hunter Service, age 87, went home to be with the Lord after passing away
peacefully in his sleep after several months of declining health.  Huntsville, AL was his home,
although he spent the last 4 months at a skilled nursing facility in Knoxville, TN.  Jim was a
gifted craftsman, known for his charitable spirit, giving of his time and resources to Westminster
Presbyterian Church (WPC), Westminster Christian Academy (WCA), mission trips and to just
about anyone in need.
Jim was a proud graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in electrical
engineering.  He played trombone in the USC marching band, a talent that he later used playing
in the WPC orchestra.  Jim was a member of WPC for over 50 years where he served as an
elder and ultimately elder emeritus.  Additionally, he served as a board member of WCA.  Jim
spent the majority of his career working at Redstone Arsenal and later at Nichols Research.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents James and Christine Service of South Carolina.
Jim leaves behind a loving family.  His wife of 59 years, Juanita Service.  He had three
daughters Debbie Zimmerman (husband David) of Knoxville, TN, Jennifer O’Rorke of Tampa,
FL, and Kimberly Pell (husband Scott) of Huntsville, AL.  Jim was blessed with seven
grandchildren:  Kristen Bryant (husband John), David (wife Marissa) and Allison Zimmerman;

Kyle and Alissa O’Rorke;  Anna Hooks (husband Caleb) and Taylor Pell.  Jim was a great
grandfather of five, Jackson and Riley Hooks, Quincy and Kennedy Zimmerman, and Rhett
Bryant.
Family and friends will be celebrating Jim’s life Friday, Sep 20 at 11:30am with graveside service
at Huntsville Memory Garden (6810 University Drive NW, Hwy 72 W, Huntsville, AL 35806).
There will also be a gathering of family and friends at 1:30pm at Westminster Presbyterian
Church (5744 Oakwood Road NW, Huntsville, AL 35806).
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations honoring Jim to the WCA marching band or general
athletics
