James “Jim Grid Iron” Goins – Obituary

James “Jim Grid Iron” Goins, 70, of Tuscumbia, died Sunday, November 11, 2018. The memorial service will be Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia.

Jim was a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, having served in the Vietnam War as a radio operator. He received two Purple Hearts and a Vietnam Service Medal. He retired from TVA in materials management. Materials management was in charge of the Most Outstanding Federal Government Cost Savings program in the United States. His team received the Hammer Award for this program, thus saving taxpayers 51 million dollars.

He graduated from Deshler High School in 1966. He received his B.S. degree from U.N.A. in 1975. He was a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, a 32nd Degree Mason, and was a member of the Sheffield Lodge No. 503 F&AM.

Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Goins Riggins; sister, Mary Ann Goins Caperton; and parents, Edgar and Lucille Goins.

He is survived by his wife, Kaye Cline Goins; daughter, Leslie Goins Slack (Chris); son-inlaw, Darryl Riggins; stepson, Brett Blazer (Joby); grandchildren, Dixon and Dawson Riggins, and Laurel and Bix Blazer.
