James (Jim) Dickey Brown went to his Heavenly home at 3:33 AM on January 7, 2024, after a lengthy illness. He was strong till the end and defied the odds many times. He died peacefully at Vanderbilt Harton Hospital in Tullahoma, TN, with his wife and three children holding him, surrounding him with love, as he went to be with Jesus.

Jim was born in Lincoln County, TN on August 13, 1949, son of the late James (Bully) Brown, and his beloved mother the late Letha Henderson Brown. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Joey H. Brown (Nellie) his brother-in-law, David A Gibson (Malinda), sister-in-law Judie Gibson, and his son-in-law, Jeffrey H. White (Jodie), father-in-law, Charles Ray Gibson (Wynona), grandmother, Goldie Ashworth Brown, and dear friend, Bob Walker (Faye). He graduated from Flintville High School in 1967 and he married Charlotte Gibson Brown on August 1, 1969.

Left behind were his wife of over 54 years, Charlotte Gibson Brown; daughter, Jodie Brown White (Jeff), and grandson, Curtis White; son, Daniel Brown (Jennifer), and grandchildren, Evelyn and Ian, Chad Brown (Courtney) and grandchildren, Morgan and Riley; siblings, Randy (Bridget) Brown, Debbie (Jack) Richardson, and Nancy (Bobby) Phelps; sister-in-law, Malinda (David) Gibson, sister-in-law, Sandi Gibson, and mother-in-law, Wynona M. Gibson. Missing him are also special friends Lori Jean, Leo Walden, Harold Gatlin, and Danny Pigg, and many other friends, co-workers, and numerous nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Jim.

Jim had a strong work ethic and held many different jobs during his lifetime. Each job taught him a new skill. He was mostly self-taught, but his varied skills included woodworking, campfire cooking, deer skull mounting, and he was famous locally for his amazing chess pies. He was an avid hunter and loved to fish. Most of all, he loved to sing and play guitar with his sons, daughter, wife, and friends. Children instinctively knew that this was a Pawpaw, whether kin to him or not. He appeared to be a big strong country boy (and he was) but underneath there was a soft interior that loved with intensity. He was immensely proud of what strong children and grandchildren he and Charlotte had, amazed at their work ethics, talents, and good hearts! No matter how weak his physical body had become, or what pain he was in, he was always ready to help anyone who needed him.

He will be sorely missed, the world has lost a beautiful soul, but Heaven has gained one. We know we’ll meet again.

A life celebration will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Higgins Funeral Home, with nephew, William “Thumper” Pigg officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 1 PM until 3 PM on Saturday at Higgins Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lymphoma Research Foundation, Wall Street Plaza, 88 Pine Street, Suite 2400, New York, NY 10005, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memorial Processing, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
