James Jeffery “Jeff” Carter, age 73, of Decatur, Alabama, formerly of Jackson County, passed away at home on October 24, 2024, after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Jeff was born on April 17, 1951, in Scottsboro, Alabama. After he graduated from Section High School, Jeff attended Northeast Alabama Community College.
After graduating college, he started his career in finance and loans and worked in Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. Jeff most recently worked as a branch manager at First Southern Financial in Decatur, Alabama.
In addition to his job, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, golfing, cooking, and watching the University of Alabama football games.
He is survived by his daughter, Heather Carter Williams (Shane); a grandson, Carter Maxwell Williams; a sister, Elaine Carter Brookshire (Harold); a special friend, Teresa Davis; and several nieces and nephews.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, James Hugh Carter and Burma Williams Taylor Carter; and half-brother, William (Billy) Taylor, Jr.
Visitation will be October 27, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Scottsboro Funeral Home followed by a brief memorial service at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. James “Woody” Woodfin officiating and J.B. Huffman speaking.
Honorary pallbearers include Tom Cook, Dave Fry, Gerald Gibson, Wally Looney, Derek Traylor, Tommy Traylor, and Dugan Williams, Jr.
