James Jacob Kasmeier, 88, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2023. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Tanner Kasmeier, his parents, John and Katherine Kasmeier, and his brother, Joe Kasmeier.
Jim was born and raised in St. Florian, AL. He attended St. Michael’s School and then went on to graduate from Rogers High School in 1952. After high school, Jim enlisted in the US Army and served four years in Germany. Jim married Barbara Tanner, of Riverton, in January 1960. They lived together on a farm in Tuscumbia. They had two children, Lesia and Edwin.
Jim began his career as a pipefitter with the Local 760 in 1953. He retired from Reynold’s Alloys in 1993.
Jim was a lifetime member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Upon his and Barbara’s move back to St. Florian from Tuscumbia in 2006, Jim was very involved as a volunteer for the Town of St. Florian.
Jim loved farming, hunting, fishing, “playing in the dirt” on his tractor, and most of all, spending time with his family.
Jim is survived by his son, Ed Kasmeier (Beth); his daughter Lesia Albright (Andrew); granddaughters, Katherine Crow (John Charles), Madeline Baggett (Blake); great-grandson, Adler James Crow; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, June 16, 2023, from 11am- 1pm at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in St. Florian, AL. A funeral mass will follow at 1 pm. Pallbearers are Blake Baggett, John Charles Crow, Mike Hellums, Chris Kasmeier, Kevin Kasmeier, and James Tassin.
