James Horton Robinson Sr., 89, of Huntsville, AL died June 14, 2020. Jim was born May 5, 1931 in Sumter, SC to AC “Bert” and Athleen Robinson.
He graduated from Edmunds High School in 1949 and from Clemson University in 1953. Immediately after graduation, he married his childhood sweetheart, Ellen Love Stroman Robinson. Jim also served in the US Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. Jim was a country boy who was an exemplary Christian, steward of Trinity United Methodist Church and Stephens Ministry; NASA engineer for the Jupiter, HEAO, and Space Shuttle programs, LA Dodger baseballologist, and avid Clemson Tiger fan! He was a Godly man in words and actions.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, AC Robinson Jr., daughter, Cynthia Starr, and son, Michael Clifton. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Ellen; sister, Francis Ann “Sinky” Garrison (Dale); daughters, Leigh R. Sartain (Rodney) and Ellen R. Thompson; sons, Kenneth “Kip” and James H. Jr. (Donna); 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; many in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 17 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral will follow in the chapel with the Rev. Mac Buttram officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
