James “Horace” Curtis, also known as Poppie by his loved ones, age 89, of Summertown, TN went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 23, 2023. He was a native of Summertown, TN and a member of Summertown Community Church. He enjoyed farming and spending time with his loved ones. Mr. Curtis honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a specialist 3rd class in the Army’s 82nd Reconnaissance Battalion 2nd Armor Division. He was retired from General Electric.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James B. and Edith V. Henson Curtis; his wife, Naomi Luffman Curtis; one daughter, Jamie Curtis; two brothers, Ben Curtis and Gene Curtis; nephew, Tony Curtis; and nieces Vicky and Teresa Curtis.

He is survived by one daughter, Angela Naomi Lyons (David); one son, James Keith Curtis (Kristy); three grandchildren, Taylor R. Wright (Drew), Benjamin D. Lyons (Kaley), and Bryson W. Lyons (Alison); three great-grandchildren, Kylie “Tylie” R. Liles, Carson D. Lyons, Logan C. Lyons, and another one on the way, Baby Wright due in 2024; brother-in-law, Jim Luffman (Carol); sister-in-law, Irene Davis; and nephew, Terry Curtis. Those serving as pallbearers will be Keith Curtis, David Lyons, Jim Luffman, Benjamin Lyons, Bryson Lyons, and Drew Wright.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to his caregiver, Susie Smith; and Hospice Compassus, especially Misty, Dawn, and Ashton.

His love of the Lord and his family were his two greatest treasures. He was Daddy, he was Poppie, he was Pops, and he was Horace. He leaves behind a legacy of faith and family that will never be forgotten.

Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Neal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Friday, October 27, 2023, with Terry Curtis officiating. Interment will follow at Summertown Cemetery in Summertown, TN with full military honors. The family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
