Funeral service for James Herbert Henderson, 84, will be Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Quail Creek Chapel with Bro. Matt Nail officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Piney Grove Cemetery in Falkville, Alabama. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 6, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Henderson died on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at UAB Hospital, Birmingham. He was born Tuesday, April 21, 1931, in Newton Grove, North Carolina to William Otto Henderson and Lucretia Worthington Henderson.
Mr. Henderson was a 1949 graduate of Falkville High School. He received his Bachelor of Science from Texas Christian University. He received his Masters of Divinity from Brite Divinity School in Ft. Worth, Texas. His Masters of Education was received from Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama. He received an Honorary Doctorate through the Rambo Committee.
Mr. Henderson was a minister for the Disciples of Christ Church for over 50 years. He pastored Piney Grove Christian Church, Cedar Plains Christian Church, Falkville Christian Church and Valhermoso Springs Christian Church as well as churches in Texas, Tennessee and North Carolina.
Mr. Henderson taught school in the Morgan County School System teaching at Falkville, Plainview, Sparkman, Danville, Union Hill and Ryan schools. His teaching career spanned over 30 years. He also served as a coach.
He served in various leadership positions for the Lions Club International, Rambo Committee-Sight for the Blind and the Boy Scouts of America. He was a founding member of the Falkville Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Henderson will be remembered as a loving brother, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was deeply committed to serving his family, community and church. His devotion to the Lord and sharing the Gospel was evident by his life of service and faith.
Mr. Henderson was preceded in death by his wives, Mattie Ruth Sams Henderson and Iris Ann Bunch Albert Henderson; his parents; two brothers, Elmer Eric Henderson and Raymond Otay Henderson; two sisters, Lucy Bonner Henderson and Jean Henderson; one grandchild, Frank Albert III; two great grandchildren Avery Quin Jones and Jack Henderson.

Pallbearers will be Enoch Jones, Jason Henderson, James Jones, Jonathan Henderson, Franklin Jones, Spencer Jones. Joshua Henderson, Benson Jones, Blake Henderson and Christopher Bartholomew.
