After a long battle with cancer, James Henry Rochester, age 83, of Florence, ascended to his heavenly home on November 25, 2018.
He was a loving husband for 57 years and lived a full and diverse life. He served in the Navy commissioned on a submarine after the Korean War and later served as a patrolman and detective with the Florence Police Department. His work experience also encompassed him being a fire investigator, race car driver and truck driver. This diverse background gave him great knowledge and wisdom that he passed on to his sons.
He was affectionately known as “Dad” to his grandchildren and great-grandson and he was beloved by his sweet dog “Doodle.” She was a ray of sunshine in his last weeks.
He loved history and sports. He enjoyed relic hunting and had quite a collection of civil war relics over the years. He found joy in watching football, the Braves and NASCAR racing. He loved watching Alabama football but, being from Georgia, he remained an avid Georgia Bulldog fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Velma Rochester; sister, Martha Berryman.
Survivors are his wife, Jeanette Rochester; children, Terry Rochester (Marsha), Steve Rochester (Kate), Mike Rochester (Susan) and Nathan Rochester (Tammy); sister, Christine Christopher; grandchildren, Rocky, Holly and Boo; great-grandson, J.T.
A private service will be held at a later date.
A special thanks to Dr. Robert J. Webb and Dr. Felix Morris for their special care.
