James Henry Greer, Sr. was born on July 3, 1933, in Huntsville, AL to the late Henry Greer and Lillie May Russell. He departed this life on September 24, 2023, peacefully in his home. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary E. Greer, son James H. Greer, Jr., sisters Shirley Ann Greer, Gloria Jean Greer, and brothers Robert Earl Greer, James Clifford Greer.
He was a member of Union Hill CP Church under the late Reverend McKinley Jones until he moved his membership to Deliverance Outreach Worship Center under Bishop Aaron Jones.
Greer served 21 years in the US Army where he received numerous medals, awards, and badges of honor including the Bronze Star Medal.
He loved his kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren dearly and would light up anytime they came around. He also enjoyed reading, solving a variety of word puzzles, and watching old westerns.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories; daughter Veronica (Henry) Myles, son Michael (Pamela) Greer, Sr., seven grandchildren; Chebree (Clarence) Adams, Andre Myles, Tameka Greer, Patrice Greer-Washington, Ashlie Greer, Michael Greer, Jr., and Jasmine Fortson; twelve great grandchildren, Briana Gosberry, Ray Anthony Gosberry III, Bryson Greer, Carlito Myles, Marquis Myles, Jahni Brooks, Greyson Greer, Michael Greer III, Xavier Myles, Zavion Myles, Xoriyo Brooks, and Eric Greer; two brothers Charles Edward Greer and Thomas Mitchell Greer, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 1, 2023, at the Deliverance Outreach Worship Center (3412 Mastin Lake Road NE, Huntsville, AL 35810) with Bishop Aaron Jones officiating. Interment will be in the Meadowlawn Garden of Peace. Mr. Greer will lie in repose thirty minutes prior to funeral time.
