James Harold “Jim” Lindsey, Sr., age 78, of Tuscumbia, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013. His family will receive friends Saturday, July 13, 2013, 12-2 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home of Tuscumbia. His funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Brother Barrett Long and Pastor Don Jolliff officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield.
Jim was a native of Hohenwald, TN, but moved to the Shoals area at the age of seven. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Tuscumbia where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and an Ordained Deacon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Earline Lindsey, his son, James Harold “Harry” Lindsey, Jr. and his brother, Joe K. Lindsey.
He graduated from Sheffield High School in 1953 and attended the University of Alabama. He was a field and track star in discus throwing and held the state record for ten years. Jim was employed with Reynolds Aluminum for fourteen years and then for Noranda Aluminum for three years before founding Southern BBQ of the Shoals. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved to work in his yard to garden and loved to play golf.
Survivors include his loving wife of fifty eight years, Mary Elizabeth Lindsey of Tuscumbia; his daughters, Elizabeth Lea Jolliff and husband Donald, Lena Louanne Hubbard and husband Dwight, four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers are Chris Jolliff, Donnie Jolliff, Dwight Hubbard, Jimmy Don Kimbrough, Earl Dean Thomason and John Ellett.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Tuscumbia or the Alzheimer’s Association.
