James H. Garner, age 84 of Winchester, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. A native of Franklin County, he was born in Winchester on July 19, 1940, to the late Merdie and Jewel (Stewart) Garner. Before his retirement, he had been employed at Shaw Industries. James stayed active as long as he was able and especially enjoyed running and riding his bicycle. He was a dedicated member of Cowan Baptist Church and loved the time spent with his church family. He will be remembered for his gift of story-telling, his easy-going personality, and as a wonderful husband, father, and friend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Steve Garner; and siblings, Billy Garner and Alma Jean Tigue. James is survived by his loving and devoted wife of sixty-two years, Dorothy “Dot” Garner; son, Bill (Kristie) Garner; grandchildren, Nicole (John) Simpson, Sara (Nathaniel) Bodine, and Derrick (Monica) Garner; great-grandchildren, James Garner, and Beau Garner; and brother-in-law, Bobby Eslick; sister-in-law, Barbara Randolph. Visitation will be from 12-2pm on Friday, July 26, 2024, at Watson Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 pm in the Roy B. Watson Chapel of Watson Funeral Home.
