James H. Carothers, Jr.

Mr. James H. Carothers, Jr., age 86, of Antioch, TN passed away peacefully Friday, May 31, 2024 with his family by his side. He was born in Nashville, TN to the late James H. Carothers, Sr. and Mary Armstrong Carothers. Mr. Carothers was a 1956 graduate of David Lipscomb High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green Business University in 1960. He had a lengthy career in accounting having worked for the State of Kentucky Department of Revenue, Tennessee Comptroller’s Office, Tennessee Department of Health, and Budget and Fiscal Office. He retired as a fiscal officer for the Mid Cumberland Regional Office after 33 years of service to the State of Tennessee. Mr. Carothers was also a long time member of Smith Springs Church of Christ.

 

Mr. Carothers is survived by his son, James Carothers, III and his wife Lori; grandchildren, Nathan James Carothers and Rachel Zingale and her husband Reid; cousins, Betsy Smith, Francis Cooper, Melissa Tennant, Ronnie Goad, Linda Gale Cunningham, and Cindy Adams; siblings-in-law who were more like siblings, Linda Delaney, Jennifer Stevens, Larry Maggard, and Doris Stanley; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Maggard Carothers, and Rick Maggard, Dean Stanley, and Paul Maggard.

 

Visitation with the family will be held Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 1:00pm until 4:00pm at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org/donate, Nashville Humane Association at nashvillehumane.org/donate, or American Heart Association at heart.org/donate.
