James Elmer “Chubby” Mitchell was born July 31, 1933 in Haywood County, TN the son of the late Harry and Cladys Clack Mitchell. He was united in marriage to Fannie Belle Parker on October 5, 2016. Chubby honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, he then served in the United States Navy where he was an equipment operator. He also worked for many years as a truck driver for DCA Foods and International Paper in Memphis, TN. Chubby departed this life on June 7, 2023 in Collinwood, TN at the age of 89 years, 10 months, and 7 days.
He is survived by his wife, Fannie Belle Parker Mitchell; stepsons, Marcus, Mack, Roy, and C.J. Parker; stepdaughters, Dolly Parker Weaver and Betty Parker Clark; 11 step grandchildren; and 7 step great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Chubby was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Edward Mitchell.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2023 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Monday, June 12, 2023 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am service time at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Collinwood, TN.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 12, 2023 at 11:00 am at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Collinwood, TN, with Greg Eaton officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Gardens at Collinwood, TN with Military Rites, with Shackelford Funeral Directors assisting the family.
Pallbearers will be Joe Martin, Bruce Martin, James Reeves, Paul Dunn, David Reeves, Carl Parker, and Nathan Daniel.
