Jimmy Tyra Profile Photo James Edward “Jimmy” Tyra, age 71 of Haleyville, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2023, at his home with the love of his life, Emily by his side.

 

He was born in Haleyville on September 19, 1952, to Edward and Olivia Tyra. Jimmy was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Haleyville.

 

Jimmy played football for Philips High School during his early years. It was during those years that he became known by his nickname “Tiretool”. His athletic abilities ultimately landed him a scholarship to Jacksonville State University. Later in life, he was inducted into the Marion County Sports Hall of Fame.

 

Many people knew Jimmy as one of the former owners of Brilliant Homes. Jimmy also worked abroad in the manufactured housing industry for some time and developed a love for world travel. He loved golfing, his dogs, and spending time with his family and many friends.

 

A graveside service will be held Monday, October 9, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at New Hope Cemetery in Haleyville. Brother Tim Meherg will officiate. Pallbearers will be John Tyler Dobbs, Mike Stone, Johnathon Cavender, Billy Nichols, James Lolley, and Jimmy Holley.

 

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Emily Tyra; nephews, Darrin Caldwell and his wife Susan and Derrick Tyra; great nephews, Matt Caldwell and his wife Hope and Conner Caldwell; and family friend, John Tyler Dobbs.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Olivia Tyra; brother, Joel Tyra; and sister, Crystal Suzette Caldwell.

 

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jimmy’s honor may be made to the New Hope Cemetery fund (C/O Cleo McClung, 2120 State Hwy 129, Haleyville, AL 35565)
