James Edward Jackson James Edward Jackson, M.D., 89, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2020. He was born on June 5, 1931 in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.

He graduated from Phillips High School in Birmingham, Alabama in 1948. He received a B.A. degree from Birmingham-Southern College in 1953, then went on to obtain a B.S. degree from the University of Alabama. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. He graduated from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1961. After completing a residency in Internal Medicine, he served as a fellow in Gastroenterology at The University of Alabama School of Medicine from 1964-1965. He was the first practicing board certified gastroenterologist in Northern Alabama and was a pioneer in the practice of endoscopy. He practiced internal medicine as well as gastroenterology in Huntsville until his retirement and was beloved by his staff and patients.

Jim proudly served our country in the United States Army Counterintelligence Corps (CIC) from 1953-1956 as Rank Sargent stationed in Europe. He served as Rank Captain in the United States Army Medical Service Unit from 1961-1963. He then served in the United States Army Reserve Medical Corps from 1964-1969. He was honorably discharged with the Rank of Captain in 1969.

Jim was an avid reader, writer, gardener, wine and art collector who spoke five languages. He was a fantastic storyteller and entertained friends and family with his tales of growing up in Birmingham, working in Yellowstone Park as a young man, serving our country in the Army, and his worldly travels.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marrice Kellam Jackson and Bevlyn Chester Jackson; and brother, Richard Jackson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Anna; children, Eric Jackson (Patricia), Steve Jackson (Beth), Lisa Grady, Mark Jackson (Kelli), Cara Greco (John), and David Jackson; and grandchildren, Grace Greco, Elise Greco, Cole Greco, Janie Jackson, and Miller Jackson.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery with his life-long friend, Dr. William Goodson performing the eulogy.
