Mr. James Edward Grissom age 84 of Spencer, TN, died Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at home – about a half of mile from where he grew up in Laurel Cove. He was born June 02, 1936, in Laurel Cove, TN, served his country and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and worked for a number of years at First National Bank where he served in various roles from teller to vice president. He enjoyed working his cattle, was a tractor enthusiast, retired as a farmer, and was a member of Harmony Church of Christ. Mr. Grissom was preceded in death by his parents Oliver Buchanan and Dovie Jane Walker Grissom, wife Lillian Sue Grissom, and brother Oliver P. Grissom.
James is survived by his sons Monte James (Janet) Grissom and Mark Edward Grissom, grandchildren Suzanna Lee Grissom (Joe Farley), Chelsea Faye Danielle Grissom, Jessica Margaret Grissom, and Monty James (Lori) Grissom, great grandchildren Addison Farley, Brookelyn Farley, Dylon Farley, Jase Farley, Lindsea Grissom, and Ellea Rigsby, niece Reanita Lneece “Niecee” (Bedford) Davis, nephews Shelby Ray (Amy) Grissom, Jackie Clay (Sandy) Grissom, and Myron Oliver (Amanda) Grissom, brother-in-law Earl Ramsey (Donna) McCoy, and sisters-in-law Mary Francis Martin and Ella Faye (H.D.) James.
Graveside service and interment is scheduled for 1:30 P.M. Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Long Cemetery in Van Buren County. Bob McCoy and R.C. Christian will officiate. The Grissom family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Friday, January 15th at McMinnville Funeral Home. Social distancing and the wearing of face masks are highly encouraged. No food gifts at the funeral home please. On Saturday, everyone will meet at the cemetery.
