James Edward Elledge, age 78, Russellville, passed away on Saturday, October 03, 2015 at Russellville Health Care.
He was born in Colbert County, Alabama on August 25, 1937 to Russell & Mary Carpenter Elledge. After returning from Illinois to his family roots in Franklin County, AL, James was owner/operator of Elledge Texaco in Russellville until retirement. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed Alabama football and basketball. His greatest joy in recent years was watching his step-grandsons play basketball for Belgreen High School He was a member of South Side Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, who for years brought fresh flowers for his wife every Sunday, as well as a caring father, grandfather, and brother. The visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 05, 2015 at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 06, 2015 at Spry Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at Knights of Pythias Cemetery.
James is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Bertha Chambers Elledge; children, Rickie Elledge, Debra Cummings; step-children, Lowell “Tooter” Landers, Teresa Alsbrooks (husband, David); several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Ronald Elledge, J.B. Elledge (wife, Linda), Charles Elledge (wife, Mary); sisters, Martha Carpenter, Gail Robertson (husband, W.C.), Patricia Pace (husband, Steve); and a host of nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Elledge; step-son, William “Pete” Landers; brother, R.M. Elledge, Jr., and sister, Mary Elledge Screeton.
The pallbearers will be Lowell Landers, Chase Landers, Chance Landers, Jimmy Murphree, Ben Elledge, and Duncan Ward.
