Mr. Brooks passed away at his home near Pocahontas on Sunday evening, November 1, 2015.

A native and life-long resident of Pocahontas, he was the son of the late Alonzo Wesley and Nancy Clara Fortune Brooks. He was a graduate of Ramer High School and was stationed in Japan, with the U. S. Army, during the Korean War. On December 22, 1956, he was united in marriage to Margie Pickens. Mrs. Brooks died March 1, 2001.

At the time of his passing, Mr. Brooks was the oldest member of the Pocahontas Baptist Church. He worked as a self-employed carpenter and enjoyed gardening and spending time outdoors.

He leaves two daughters, Brenda Sue (Bradley) Pannell of Pocahontas and Rebecca (Matthew Castellaw) Webb, also of Pocahontas; 3 grandchildren, Brandon (Deanna) Cofer, Chad (Brandy) Droke and Jenny (Adam) Bishop; and 11 great-grandchildren, Dawson, Kayla, Conner, Mailey, Kyson, Blake, Caleb, Katie, Seth, Jada and Savanna.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Charles, Roy and Troy Brooks; 3 half-sisters, Evelyn Yopp, Etta Faye Steadman and Mary Gann; and 3 half-brothers, Carlin, Hall and J. W. Brooks.
