Obituary of James Edward Cox Dr. James Edward Cox died peacefully at Hendrix Heath & Rehabilitation in Double Springs, Alabama, on November 21, 2023, surrounded by his family.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 26, 2023, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Arley, directed by Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. Dr. Michael Adams and the Rev. John Jaye will officiate.

Jim was born in Jasper on June 18, 1953. He graduated from Addison High School in 1971. He attended Jacksonville State University on a football scholarship, graduating in 1976. Jim attended the University of Alabama School of Dentistry, where he received a Doctorate of Medicine in Dentistry in 1980. Following graduation from Dental School, he moved to Haleyville where he practiced dentistry for 13 years. He then moved to Jasper, where he continued practicing dentistry for 27 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Jasper, where he taught Sunday School.

He was preceded in death by his father, Royce Benjamin Cox; and brother, Billy Preston Cox.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Debbie Schrimsher Cox; sons, Dr. Adam Zachary Cox and Jacob Samuel Cox; grandson, Benjamin Carter Cox; honorary son, Joseph Kyle Stephenson (Stacy); honorary granddaughter, Ellie Mae Stephenson; mother, Martha Cook Cox; brother, Dr. Larry Wayne Cox (Debbie); brother, Dr. Teddy Russell Cox (Michelle); and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Adam Cox, Jacob Cox, Kyle Stephenson. B.J. Cox, Randy Masters and Wayne Schrimsher.

Memorials may be made to Jasper’s First Baptist Church, 1604 Fourth Avenue, Jasper, AL, or Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, D.C., 20090-6011.
