James E. Vaughn, 94 of Tuscumbia, passed away Friday, September 1, 2023. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 6, 2023, from 1:00-2:00 at Morrison Funeral Home in Tuscumbia. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 in Oakwood Cemetery in Tuscumbia.

James was a native of Addison, Alabama where he graduated from Addison High School in 1949. He joined the U.S. Army where he served as a medic and was remembered for tending to the late Bob Dole while serving in Battle Creek Michigan. After his discharge from the Army, James returned home to Alabama and attended trade school. After finishing school, he worked as a machinist until Muscle Shoals Technical Institute (now Shoals Community College) was opened where he started the new Machine Tool Technology Department. While teaching, he attended college at night, graduating from Athens State in 1980. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His grandchildren were the love of his life, especially his great granddaughter “WeeWee”. James was an avid fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jackie Vaughn; parents, Albert and Lillie Vaughn; son, Thomas Vaughn; sister, Jeraldene Eddy; and two twin sisters.

James is survived by his sons, James Stanley Vaughn (Brenda) and Johnny Vaughn (Tabitha); grandchildren, Kayla Gutierrez (Jose) and John M. Vaughn; great granddaughter, Samantha “WeeWee” Gutierrez; and special friend of thirty-three years, Helen Richardson.
