The Lord called James E. Green home.
James (Jim) Edgar Green, age 88 and a resident of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away early morning, Saturday March 9, 2024 at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro.
James was born November 18, 1935, in DeKalb County, TN, son of the late John Dowie Green and Mattie Neely Green. He was the husband of Virginia Basham Green. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and did lithograph labeling for canning companies in Chicago, IL. He retired after 30 years of printing from Anchor Hocking, Durbar, PA, in 1995 and moved back to Middle Tennessee.
Jim was a faith member of Hall’s Chapel church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant, TN. He loved the church so much he traveled the United States videotaping church of Christ lectureships. Jim was also an avid gardener. Friends and family enjoyed his large backyard garden. “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few” Luke 10:2.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Rebecca and Dave Mischke of Columbia; brothers: Johnny (Judy) Green of Walling, TN, Eddie (Carol) Green and Jack Green, both of Smithville, TN; sisters: Sara Adcock of Murfreesboro, TN and Joyce Carman of Louisville, KY; grandchildren: Brad
(Tiffany) Mischke, Nathan (Rayna) Stephens, Adam (Angela) Mischke, and Amanda Green; seven grandchildren, a great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son: James Keith Green; brothers: Tommy and Kenny Green; sisters: Elsie Steinbach, Faye Cantrell and Christine Adcock.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Lee, Brad Mischke, Adam Mischke and Amanda Green.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Alive Hospice of Murfreesboro or to Operation Stand Down.
