James Dwight Fleming, 80, Leighton, passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2023. Visitation will be Sunday, September 10, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will be Monday, September 11, at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Mike Weldon officiating. Interment will be in Hard Shell Cemetery, Town Creek.
Dwight worked and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad for 34 ½ years. He was a member of Blythe Memorial Church. Dwight was a loving friend, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved to fish and spend time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Betty Fleming; son, Tony Vines; daughter, Tammy Vines; grandson, Ryan Vines; great-granddaughter, Haisley McGee; parents, Rayburn and Jimmie Lou Fleming; brothers, Malcolm Fleming and Donald Fleming; and sister, Vickie Burns.
Dwight is survived by his sister, Martha Canterbury; daughters, Teresa Fleming McCormack (Kenneth) and Melissa Vines; sons, David Vines (Teresa) and Gerald Vines (Bridgett); grandchildren, Lindsey, Casey, Jessi, Ashley, Kayla, Trenton, Brittany, Chris, and Jordan; great-grandchildren, Zoey, Mia, Leo, Landon, Emma, Oliver, Clayton, Joey, and Ellie; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Frankie Taylor, Paul Swinney, Tim Fleming, Adam Ziegenbein, David Vines, and Gerald Vines. Retirees at Norfolk Southern Railroad will serve as honorary pallbearers.
