James Doyd Brackin, 84, of Decatur, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. A visitation for Mr. Brackin will be held Saturday, December 30, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Westmeade Baptist Church, followed by a celebration of life at 2:00 PM at the church. He will be laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery.
Doyd Brackin was born to Otho and Edna Brackin on October 3, 1939. He attended Hazelwood High School and was a longtime supervisor of Monsanto before later becoming an Account Executive with the Vernon Company working with many local small businesses to supply their promotional materials. He graduated from Calhoun Community College with an associate’s degree in business administration.
Doyd Brackin is survived by his wife of 64 years, Maxine Crosswhite Brackin; his daughter, Vicki (Charles) Kitchens; his two grandsons, Ethan (Teri) and Chad (Kelsey) Kitchens; his three great-grandchildren, Charlie, Olivia, and Shiloh Kitchens, and many other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jay Brackin; parents, Otho and Edna Brackin, and siblings Norma Wear (Kirk), Bill (Gwen), and Eddy Joe (Mary Alice).
Doyd was a brilliant follower of Christ, taught Sunday School classes for many years, embodied the attributes of Love found in 1 Corinthians 13, and was a member of Westmeade Baptist Church in Decatur.
Prior to moving back to Decatur in the early 2000’s, he was an avid boater and fisherman when he resided in Town Creek on the Tennessee River.
His friends and family will remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and many other roles that he filled. He prioritized instilling positive values into his family and ensured that he showed pride and praise whenever possible. He was always good for a hug or handshake and a smile, and leaves behind a loving family that will cherish their memories of him.
After a multi-year stint with dementia, he is healed and reunited with his Savior, and his own son Jay who sadly passed earlier this year in July after a battle with cancer.
His wife Maxine wants to especially thank the Doctors, Nurses and 3rd floor staff of Decatur Morgan Hospital for the care provided to them over the past week and the Christmas holiday.
Pallbearers will be Charles Kitchens, Ethan Kitchens, Chad Kitchens, Jackie Brackin, Gregg Caine, Ashley Loosier, Tyler Crosswhite and Robin Wear.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Kirk Wear, Larry Greene and Dempsey Copeland.
Donations can be made to First Priority in lieu of flowers.
