FLORENCE—James Dolan announces his candidacy as an Independent candidate for Alabama House District 1. Dolan, 26 years old, is committed to bringing new insight and energy to his district.
“It’s time for a referendum!” says Dolan. “I am running to give the people of District 1 a better choice for representative. A vote for Dolan will result in more funding for Lauderdale County schools, Florence City schools, and infrastructure; without any new taxes. In contrast, a vote for Phillip Pettus, my opponent, will funnel 1.2 million dollars a year away from schools and infrastructure, a 2-cent gas tax, and a new sales tax. These new taxes will hurt everyone in Lauderdale County, especially the most vulnerable.”
Only 26 years old and a native of Florence, Ala., Dolan is one of the youngest candidates to enter the race and has high aspirations for his potential role, if elected as representative.
“I support UNA and will close the per-student funding gap that currently exist. UNA is a vital part of our community and needs to be supported in Montgomery. Workers are the backbone of Alabama and I will support their fight for better wages, benefits, and working conditions. I believe in helping the working poor have access to quality healthcare. Special interests have funneled money into politicians for too long. Unlike my opponent, I will not accept money from special interest and will support legislation to stop special interest,” Dolan says.
James Dolan has lived in Florence for over 23 years. He graduated from Wilson High School in 2010 and UNA in 2015.
