James Dillard “Jimmy” Johnston Sr. of the Highland Community in Lacey’s Spring, Alabama; departed from this lifetime on the afternoon of Wednesday – March 9, 2022 at the age of 82 years.

Mr. Johnston was born on March 8, 1940 in Madison County, Alabama to the late James Lester Johnston and Gertrude Hornbuckle Johnston. Mr. Johnston retired from the missile and space intelligence center of Redstone Arsenal. Jimmy was a charter member of Highland Baptist Church and enjoyed partaking in activities such as; camping, fishing, operating ham radio, playing with his dog “KoKo” but above all, he cherished the time he spent with his children and grandchildren.

Mr. Johnston leaves behind to cherish his legacy; sons, James D. “Rocky” Johnston Jr. (Renee), Steven Wade Johnston (Donna) and Timothy Eric Johnston (Charlene); brother, David Lee Johnston; sister, Sally Neal (Don) as well as 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Mr. Johnston is preceded in death by his beloved wife; Vera Estella Brown Johnston; parents, James Lester Johnston and Gertrude Hornbuckle Johnston and one granddaughter.

A visitation will be held at the Brindlee Mountain Chapel on Saturday – March 12, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Funeral service will take place at the Highand Baptist Church on Sunday – March 13, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with Freddie Childs and Craye Hall, officiating services.

Mr. Johnston will lie-in-state from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. Sunday – March 13, 2022 at the Highland Baptist Church.

Interment is to follow services immediately at the Highland Cemetery in Lacey’s Spring, Alabama
