James David White, 75, of Tuscumbia, died Sunday, July 15, 2012. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 16, at Morrison’s Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church, Tuscumbia; the body will lie in state an hour before the service. The Reverends Darrell Pace and Mike Colston will officiate. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Colbert Memorial Gardens.
Mr. White was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Bessie White; parents-in-law, Roy and Lois Kimbrough; stepmother, Gertrude Green White; and step-brother, Roy Green. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Shirley Kimbrough White; son, Christopher David White, and wife, Catherine, and two of the greatest grandsons, John David White and Benjamin Edwards White, all of Sheffield; sisters, Linda Bigbee (Larry), of Muscle Shoals and Lois Westmoreland (Dan), of Memphis, Tennessee; nephews, Will Bigbee, of Muscle Shoals, Wes Westmoreland and Jay Westmoreland, both of Memphis, Tennessee; stepbrothers, Wayne Green, of Muscle Shoals, and Larry Green, of Texas.
Mr. White retired as a MSGT in the United States Air Force with more than 20 years of active service. A veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, he received many decorations and letters of commendation. He was also retired from Occidental Chemical Company with over 22 years of service.
He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church, Tuscumbia, where he served the Lord in many offices.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to his doctors and caregivers at Northwest Alabama Cancer Center, to all his physicians, nurses and other caregivers at Helen Keller Hospital, and to all those who have helped with prayers, cards, visits, food and other acts of kindness.
Pall bearers will be Bo Stanley, Sam McClure, Fred Pendergrass, Paul Sides, Wayne McDougale, Mark Curtis, Randy Curtis, and Don Wallace. Honorary pallbearers will be the Roger Moore Sunday School class and the Class of 1956 Sheffield Bulldogs.
