James Daniel Counts, 87, Tuscumbia, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023. Visitation will be Monday, December 11, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel with Paul Haley officiating. Interment will be in Glendale Cemetery, Leighton.
Daniel was a member of Leighton Church of Christ, where he was a former elder and song leader. He was the owner and operator of Countsland Farm and Turkey Track Ranch.
He was preceded in death by his son, James Daniel Counts, II; parents, Sallie Mae and Claude Price Counts, Sr.; brothers, George Williams Counts and Claude Price Counts, Jr.; and sisters, Susie Counts, Sarah Franklin Counts, Jessie Counts, Florence Marie Counts James, and Emma Viora Counts.
Daniel is survived by his loving wife of sixty-four years, Joan Campbell Counts; daughters, Lucy Melessa Counts Hornbuckle (Jeff), Lana Joan Counts Mansell (Gary), and Anna Lynda Counts Phillips (Jon); sister-in-law, Glenda Campbell; grandchildren, Jeremy Palmer (Jennifer), Jessica Palmer Hood (Griffin), Jared Nicholas Palmer (Vashti), Zakariah McCorkle (Michelle), and Joanie McCorkle Durham (Shannon), Noah Phillips (Darby), Luke Phillips; great-grandchildren, Jakob and Julie Palmer, Danni Kate and Oliver James Durham, Cora Lee Hood, and Levi and Lucas McCorkle; and a number of nieces and nephews. Daniel’s greatest loves were his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His family will miss him dearly.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy and Nick Palmer, Noah and Luke Phillips, Zak McCorkle, Kevin Uhlman, Shannon Durham, and Griffin Hood.
