Brother Jim leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, “his pretty girl”, Gladys Johnson; son, Edward L. Johnson, Chelsea, AL; daughters, Barbara A. Kendrick, Russellville, AL, Brenda L. Gustin (Jim), Birmingham, AL, Linda Frederick, Chelsea, AL; grandchildren, Tracy Birge (Todd), Kentucky, Patricia Gadker, Kentucky; great-grandchildren, Christian Tyler Doyle, Anna Sweeney (Chandler), Noah Gadker, Logan Johnson; great-great-grandson, Xavier Sweeney, all of Kentucky.

James D. Johnson also leaves behind Gladys’ family who loved him as their own. He is survived by his stepson, William Andy Lane and wife, Susan, their three daughters, Leah Tucker (Mark), Christy Morgan (Jon), Meredith Stump (Charles) and was “Pops” to nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Mary Elizabeth Johnson; daughter, Patty Johnson; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Johnson; sons-in-law, Roger Kendrick and Terry C. Frederick; grandson, Jeffrey Johnson; father, George H. Johnson; mother, Sarah Johnson; sisters, Gladys Elizabeth “Betty” Essman, Sarah Mae “Dee Dee” Johnson; brother, Thomas Henry Johnson.

Visitation was at Cherry Hill Church, Monday, July 17, 2023 from 12 until 2 p.m. with Bro. Jason Thorn and Bro. Larry Dover officiating. Funeral will followed at the church at 2 p.m. Burial will be today at 11 a.m. at Highland Memorial Gardens in Bessemer, AL.

Akins Funeral Home is assisting the family.
