James Cloys Gaskin, 81, entered the kingdom of Heaven on Wednesday March 12, 2025.

Born on February 11, 1944, in Gadsden, Alabama to Joe and Willene Gaskin, he attended Etowah High School and Howey Academy. After high school he attended trade school where he obtained many skills such as upholstery and printing.

On March 17, 1965, he married the love of his life Carolyn Joyce Gaskin. After James and Joyce moved to Huntsville, he achieved the honor of being a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason which he was extremely proud of. Working for Intergraph printing for 17 years, he then went on to pursue a career in manufacturing for Schwarze Industries over the past 24 years.

James was the definition of a hard-working man and faithful provider to his family. There was nothing he loved more than to come home after a long day to enjoy one of Joyce’s home cooked meals. When not working you could find him fixing lawnmowers, watching his favorite television show “Gunsmoke,” cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide football team, and spending time with his beloved family. He was loved by all who knew him and could make anyone laugh with his witty sayings and infectious sense of humor.

He is survived by his beloved wife Carolyn Joyce Gaskin, his sister Faye Kennah, his children Rodney (Tracy) Gaskin, David (Valerie) Gaskin, Richard Gaskin, and Brittany (Blake) Butler; eleven grandchildren: Chase Anderson, Ashley Anderson, Andrew Gaskin, Seth Gaskin, Chance Mason, Casey Mason, Taylor (Lukas) Newby, Alayna Gaskin, Gracie Gaskin, Preston Gaskin, and Aidan Wallace. He adored his three great-grandchildren Parker, Willa Grey, and Dawson. He is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Willene Gaskin, his brother Ricky Gaskin, his daughter-in-law Kari Gaskin, his sister Betty Jo Latham, his daughter Shannon Wallace, and his grandson Colby Gaskin.

Visitation will be Sunday March 16 at Hazel Green Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. We will celebrate the wonderful life of James on Monday March 17 at 11 a.m. at Hazel Green Funeral Home with the burial to follow at Charity Lane Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Rodney Gaskin, David Gaskin, Richard Gaskin, Seth Gaskin, Andrew Gaskin and Preston Gaskin.

The family would like to invite friends and family to join them in wearing a shade of green or spring color to honor the love and blessings James found throughout his life.

March 17 is also a symbolic day for our family as James and Joyce would be celebrating 60 wonderful years together.

Hazel Green Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
