James Clifford Whiting, age 97, of Florence passed on December 15, 2023. Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, December 19th – 10:00 am at Pleasant Hill Church, 2705 County Road 222, Florence, AL 35633, with Chris Weldon officiating.
James was preceded by Parents, Roy and Eva Whiting. His sister Iola Jean Whiting Hartle. Wife Dorothy Ruth McKane Whiting and son Stephen James Whiting.
He is survived by two daughters: Katherine Lynne Townsend (Earl) and Marilyn Diane Bowling (Pete) of Muscle Shoals. Four grandchildren: Ashley Townsend, Case Townsend, Michael Bowling, Matthew Bowling and Nicholas Bowling. Two great grandchildren, Hope and Faith Jennings. And two nephews, both of Canada, Bruce and Donald Hartle.
James started as a draftsman in Toronto Canada, moved to the United States to the state of Michigan in 1959, where he worked and designed parts for major aircraft. He transferred to High Point N.C. where he became a Senior Project Engineer, then moved to Florence, Alabama to be closer to his Children.
