James Cecil Murphy, 85, of Florence, passed away June 6, 2013 at his residence. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, a member of the Brick Layers Local, American Legion Post 11, Disabled Veteran’s Chapter 63, a former deacon at Chisholm Hills Church of Christ, and a former brick mason for Reynolds Alloys Plant.
Visitation will be Friday, June 7, 2013 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Chisholm Hills Church of Christ. Officiating will be Willie Hamblen. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park with military funeral honors.
Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his son, Michael Murphy; parents, Elbert and Cora Murphy; brother, Horace Murphy.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Dowdy Murphy; daughter, Melissa Jean Hall; brothers, Howard and Kenneth Murphy; sisters, Irene Irons, Nina Hart, Margaret Daily, Linda Haggard; grandchildren, Ann Palmer (Brent), Emily Nicole Underwood, Shawn Murphy, Stacy Vinson (Zach); great-grandchildren, Payton and Mackenzie Palmer, Landon Murphy, Brycen Vinson.
Active pallbearers will be Patrick Jones, Brent Palmer, Greg Hart, David Dowdy, Keith Irons, and Shawn Murphy.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dalton Dowdy, Zack Vinson, and Rick Irons.
