James Carter Sanders, age 73 of Winchester, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at his home after a lengthy illness. A native of Franklin County, he was born on October 26, 1948, to the late Virgil Sanders and Wilma Jean (Coker) Hannah. Before his retirement in 2008, he was employed by Avdel Manufacturing in Stanfield, North Carolina. Carter worked in the automotive manufacturing industry as a material and purchasing manager. He was instrumental in the installation of a (MAPICS) computer system at GDX automotive in Salisbury, North Carolina. Carter’s employment history also included two years at AGC Glass in Canton, Mississippi and Birmingham, Alabama, twelve years with CKR Industries (now TEPRO) in Winchester, and six years as a purchasing agent with Pan AM World Services at Arnold Air Force Base. He graduated in 1966 from Franklin County High School. Other education opportunities included a bachelor’s degree in business administration, MAPICS certification, and seminars in small and minority business purchasing. Organization affiliations included Boy Scouts of America, Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Franklin County Country Club president, Franklin County Literacy Council, Tennessee Automotive Manufacturers Association Board of Directors, and listed in Strathmore’s Who’s Who for two years. Carter loved sporting activities. He was an outstanding junior bowler and team member under the guidance of Herman Brown. He enjoyed the sport well into his adult years. He was an avid skeet shooter and loved playing golf with all his country club friends. He loved to deer hunt and passed that passion on to his son. His most memorable hunting trips were to the deer lease in southern Texas with Jimmy Sain and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wrice and Grace Coker; stepfather, Robert Curtis; and aunt, Eula Mae Anderson. Carter is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Wanda Garner Sanders; son, Jim Sanders and wife Tina Clark Sanders; granddaughter, Melodie Sanders of McMinnville; grandsons, Bradley Sanders and Bobby Sanders of McMinnville; and five great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jathon, Gaby, Blaklyn, and Zair. He is also leaving behind his beloved dog, Buddy; and cousins, Joy Pounders and Robbie Anderson. Visitation will be Saturday, October 15, 2022, from 11am-2pm at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home.
