James “Buddy” Chism, 85, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo. He was born on September 9, 1938 in Monroe County to the late Harry and Reba Sanders Chism. Buddy married Mavis Griggs in 1958. Buddy worked for years as a mechanic. He was also a heavy equipment operator and owned his own roofing company. Buddy enjoyed working on old cars, fixing them up to sell them.
Buddy is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mavis Chism of Amory; brothers, Chip Chism (Dana), Aberdeen and Gene Chism (Madeen), TX; sister, Doreen Camp, Fulton; a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Buddy is preceded in death by his son, Ricky Dale Chism; sisters, Linda and Maureen; brothers, Larry, Gilbert, KB and Freddy Chism.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Robert Fowlkes and Bro. Ricky Stanford officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Cemetery. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be prior to the service on Thursday from 10 AM until 11 AM.
