James Andrew “Andy” Thomason, age 84, a longtime resident of Columbia, TN, passed away on August 3, 2024, at Maury Regional Hospital. Raised in the Enterprise Community by his late parents, Ulna and Sarah Thomason, Andy was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Betty Jo Malugin Thomason, on March 15, 2024.
Andy had a dedicated career working at various plants in the area and ultimately retired as a Maintenance Mechanic/Electrician from G.E. He proudly served in the United States Army and held the distinguished title of an Army Ranger.
In his younger years, Andy was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for hunting turkey and deer, later developing a love for fishing.
In addition to his wife and parents, Andy was preceded in death by his brother Richard Thomason, sister Vicki Thomason, sons Jimmy and Phillip Thomason, brother-in-law Kenneth Scott, sister-in-law Naomi Humphrey, and brother-in-law Billy Collins.
Andy is survived by his brother Charles Thomason, sister Patty Collins, and his sisters- and brothers-in-law: Rodger and Martha Pilkinton, and Larry and Donna Tarkington. He is also survived by nieces and nephews Kevin (Thea) Scott, Candi (Rodney) Adams, April Bobb, Nathan Tarkington, several great-nieces and nephews, and special friend Jackson Spires.
Visitation for Andy will be held on August 9th from 10 am to 12 pm, with the funeral service immediately following, officiated by Reverend James Lunsford. Burial will take place at Polk Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will include Kevin Scott, Rodney Adams, Nathan Tarkington, Alex Meadows, Colby Adams, and Ethan Bobb. Honorary pallbearers include Reddick and Debbie Scott, Calvin and Addie Scott, Dick and Neda Brickner, Randy and Salene Walters, Kenneth and Pam Bates, Martha Hay, Jackie Spires, and Jackson Spires.
Memorials may be sent to Fly Nazarene Church. The family extends their gratitude for the prayers, phone calls, and visits during this time. Andy will be greatly missed.
