James Allen Kendall, age 97, of Sheffield, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 19, 2024. The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, October 22, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment with military honors will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Kendall was born on May 8, 1927, in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Marines. After his service, Mr. Kendall enrolled at the University of Alabama where he graduated with a BS in Commerce and Business Administration. James and his wife Helen moved to Sheffield, where he worked as a Certified Public Accountant. Mr. and Mrs. Kendall were members of the First Baptist Church of Sheffield, both having joined in 1957. In 1967, James was ordained as a deacon, and he served faithfully. In addition to being a member of York Bluff Baptist Church, he was also a member of the Sheffield V.F.W.

Preceding James in death were his beloved wife of seventy years, Helen (nee Gibbons), their son Ronald Kendall, and his brother Jerry. Mr. Kendall is survived by his daughter-in-law, Janet Kendall; brother, B.J. Kendall; grandsons, Jason Kendall (Kandi) and Jacob Kendall (Emily); great grandchildren, Boston, Brynli, Beckham, and Simon; and his dear friends, Jimmy and Margaret Austin.

Pallbearers will be Jason Kendall, Jacob Kendall, Boston Kendall, Jimmy Austin, Jamey Austin, and Bryan Austin. Deacons and former deacons of York Bluff Baptist Church/First Baptist Church Sheffield will serve as honorary pallbearers.
