Jacob “Tyler” Hooie, born on January 8, 1988, in Birmingham, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly at his home in the Bethel community north of Anderson, Alabama, on August 27, 2024.
Tyler was the beloved son of Steve Hooie and the late Betty Ann McConnell Hooie. He is survived by his sister, Stephanie Hooie Lee (Shane Lee), and his brother, John Daniel Hooie (Katie Lambert Hooie). Tyler was a beloved nephew to his aunts and uncles, Sharon Ditto (Ed Ditto), James Albert (Freda) McConnell, and the late Freddie (Sheila) McConnell; and was a cherished uncle to his nieces, Maggie, Anna Kate, Carley, Sophie, and Abbie. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, J.P. & Bennie Hooie, and Albert & Della Mae McConnell. Tyler leaves behind many other dear family members and friends, both near and far.
Tyler had a deep love for books and magazines, watches, movies, crossword puzzles, word searches, and actual puzzles. Above all, he loved to laugh. His kind and gentle nature, coupled with his great sense of humor, brought joy to everyone who knew him. Tyler had a special talent for making everyone laugh, even in difficult times. His infectious laughter and bright spirit will be deeply missed.
One of Tyler’s friends fondly remembers how privileged he felt picking Tyler up from school, as all the students would wave and say, “Bye, Tyler.” This memory, along with many others, captures the essence of Tyler’s impact on those around him.
Gravesite visitation and interment will take place at Civitan Cemetery, Rogersville, Alabama, with the date and time to be announced later.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Autism Speaks (autismspeaks.org/donate) or the Rogersville Church of Christ Building Fund (450 College St, Rogersville, AL 35652) in Tyler’s memory.
