Jack Vernon Phillips – Obituary

Jack Vernon Phillips, 84, of Tuscumbia, died Aug. 7, 2015. Visitation will be Sunday, Aug. 9, from 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be Monday, Aug. 10, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. Chad Holder and Jimmy Dowdell Jr. will be officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia.
Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerne T. Phillips; parents, Hattie Mae and Charlie C. Phillips; sisters, Geneva Jones, Deedee May, Rachel Shook, Edith Risner; brothers, Charlie Paul, Donald D., Charner C., Frank D. and Myron D. Phillips.
He is survived by sons, Brad Phillips (Beverly), Keith Phillips (Tiffany); brother, Elvis L. Phillips (Jean); sister, Barbara A. Phillips; and three grandchildren.
Mr. Phillips was an army veteran in the Korean War, a retired brakeman for Norfolk-Southern Railroad and member of UTU. He was a Deshler Athletics supporter, as well as Alabama Football and Atlanta Braves Fan. Jack’s life was blessed with many friends, so please cherish the memories you may have of him.
Pallbearers will be David Fleming, Bryce Graham Jr., Bryce Graham III, Dan Henson, Butch Horton, Randy Inman, Jimmy R. “Arkie” Smith Jr., Kevin “Goose” Thompson and Kyle Tompkins.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or Wounded Warriors Foundation, 3343 Peachtree Road, NE #M20, Atlanta, GA 30326.
The family offers a special thank you to the nurses, aides and physical therapists of Keller Landing for the loving care shown to Mr. Phillips.
