He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Charlotte Sanders Newell, a daughter, Candace Newell Brasfield, two grandsons, Jake and Connor Brasfield of Cartersville, GA, a brother, Charles P. Newell, Jr. (Annette) of Starkville, MS.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Anne Newell Saunders, and brother-in-law, David Saunders.
Jack was born September 7, 1946 to the late Charles P. Newell, Sr. and Mary Lord Newell in Starkville, MS. He graduated from Starkville High School and Mississippi State University with a degree in Business. He began his career with State Farm Insurance in 1972 and retired after 37 years.
Jack was very active in his churches in Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi. He especially enjoyed being on the Wesley Foundation Board at MSU after he returned to Starkville. Jack enjoyed hunting and fishing his whole life. He spent two weeks each year with the “Bend Boys” fishing at Toledo Bend in Louisiana. This group of men began fishing together, laughing together and reminiscing together 34 years ago.
Jack’s other passion was working in his huge garden. He loved sharing the produce from the garden with family and friends.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Steven Brandon, OCH Respiratory Rehab Center, and Gentiva Hospice, especially Laura Mitchell, Veronica Harmon, and Jerri Wooten.
The visitation will be Tuesday, February 13, 2024 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. with the service to follow in the chapel of Welch Funeral Home. Rev. Hugh Griffith will officiate.
The pallbearers will be: Billy Bush, Reed Eason, Johnny Upchurch, Stacy Cherry, Paul Yateman, and Marvin Turnipseed.
