Jack Lamar Mott, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died at age 86, at his residence, on May 29, 2016, after a long battle with cancer.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Long Memorial Methodist Church. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at Long Memorial Methodist Church with burial at Walker Memory Gardens. David Dale and Ryan Rosser will officiate.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Madison Mott; parents, Venus Lamar Mott and Jennie Onzell Simmons Mott; and Sister, Gaynell Mayo.
Survivors include his son, Randy Lamar Mott (Penne) and grandson, Perry Lamar Mott.
He served as Army staff Sargent of a mortar platoon in the 32nd Regiment of the 7th Infantry during the Korean conflict, and he was awarded a purple heart. He returned home to the Cordova community, where he had many friends and where he lived until his death.
Dr. Mott began teaching at Walker College in September of 1956, after receiving his B.S. from Livingston. He became the business manager of the College in 1957. He received his master’s degree from the Peabody College of Education at Vanderbilt University and an Honorary Law Degree from Livingston University. Dr. Mott became Vice-president of Administration at Walker College in 1974 and then President in 1988.
Jack Mott was beloved and respected by all who knew him. He loved life, and he was an active member of the communities he served. He was a member of Jasper Kiwanis for many years and served two terms as President. He was also trustee of the Walker College Foundation.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Long Memorial Methodist Church of Cordova or the Walker College Foundation.
